What to do in the first ten minutes
Before you call anybody, run this list:
- Get everyone away from the tree and out from under the damaged part of the structure. A tree that's already fallen is not finished moving. Loaded limbs and a partially failed root plate can shift with no warning.
- If any line is down or the tree is touching a power line, treat every wire as live. Stay back and call MLGW (or your utility) first. We do not touch energized primary lines and neither should you.
- If you smell gas or the structure is compromised, call 911 and get out.
- Take photos from a safe distance. Wide shots, then close-ups. Get the tree, the damage, and the surroundings before anything is moved. This is worth real money on your claim.

What we do when we get there
First move is always to make it safe, not to make it pretty. We assess the load path — what's holding what — and relieve it in an order that doesn't cause a second failure. That often means cutting the tree off the structure and securing it before any cleanup happens, then tarping the opening so the next rain doesn't finish what the tree started.
The full removal, the cleanup, the stump — that can happen the next day in daylight. Stopping the damage from getting worse happens now.
Insurance claims — the part nobody explains
Most homeowners policies in Tennessee, Mississippi and Arkansas cover removing a tree when it has struck a covered structure, and they cover repairing the structure. Coverage usually gets thinner fast when the tree hit nothing — many policies pay little or nothing to haul off a tree that simply fell in the yard.

What does emergency work cost versus normal work?
Emergency work costs more than scheduled work — night lighting, overtime crew, and the additional rigging complexity of a tree that's already failed and under load. We'll tell you a number before we start.
The tree is on the power line. Who do I call?
The utility, first, always. In Memphis that's MLGW at 901-544-6500. Once the line is de-energized or dropped, we can work. We do not cut energized primary conductors.
Will you bill my insurance directly?
We invoice you and give you documentation built for a claim — photos, itemized scope, before-and-after. Most carriers reimburse the homeowner. We're glad to speak with your adjuster.
